With the help of our program partners, Kids Cafe is changing lives. United Way is currently measuring the impact of the local program on its participants. We hope to show that the program is improving the nutritional intake of low-income children as well as helping these children improve their grades at school.
A study by Brandeis University’s Center on Hunger and Poverty examined impact of Kids Cafe on its participants nationwide and discovered the following:
Two-thirds of children surveyed reported feeling better since going to Kids Cafes. The top four ways they reported feeling better were:
- Earning better grades in school (54.5%)
- Having more energy/less fatigue (51.5%)
- Having better concentration (42.4%)
- Feeling less grouchy (42.4%)
- 70% of parents or caregivers stated that they had seen improvement in their child’s nutritional intake.
- 68% identified improvement in their child’s overall physical health.
- 77% identified improvement in their child’s learning.
- 67% identified improvements in their child’s behavior.
- 64% identified improvement in their child’s safety or supervision.
